End of the road is a new beginning
Since 1994 we have seen many changes in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was not only the first Black president of South Africa, but also the first political prisoner to take office in the Union Buildings. His was an extraordinarily difficult task – he had to take over a country that was on the brink of economic collapse due to all the sanctions; merge and transform the unwieldy separate services that were put into place by the apartheid government; turn the tide of the way people thought about race, and convince those who had filled their garages with canned food that there was a future for all in this country.
